Carry
I have a deep appreciation for the Peak Design Capture Clip when it comes to securing my larger cameras. However, using the Clip for a compact camera is less than ideal. This is where the compact carry attachment comes into play – a concept I've conceived and designed specifically to seamlessly integrate with the existing system. This innovative attachment takes a different approach, utilizing the hot shoe mount located on top of the camera, as opposed to the threaded insert at the bottom. This clever adaptation allows the camera to rest against your body in a more ergonomic and natural position, resolving the issues I’ve had with my carry.
Defining The Problem
X100V in vertical mode - harder to quickly access and release the camera, sits up too high.
X100V in horizontal mode - camera sticks out quite a bit and hangs down, pulling shoulder strap.
X100V on a sling - thin design makes it awkward to carry.
Final Design
Attachment shown with original Capture Clip from Peak Design.
Base plate screw slots through the plate and screws into the compact camera attachment.
Attached via hot shoe. Clamped down with a screw system similar to many shotgun microphones.
Outcomes
Aesthetics: Looks kind of like an elephant head, slightly bulky for compact cameras, concept fits original design
Functionality: Works same as current system (quick and easy), sits closer to body and works better for compact cameras, you have to live with a chunk of metal attached to your camera, attachment point is not as sturdy as a standard camera mounting point (hot shoe is not designed for load and is made of thin metal which would most likely fail with use)
Compatibility: Fully compatible with current system (weight distribution might affect stress concentrations but compact cameras are generally very lightweight)
